What i do
Thornbury Vet
Alongside my long-term colleague, Dr Seina Capp, I opened the privately owned and operated Thornbury Vet clinic in 2012. We are joined by a passionate team of experienced Vets and Nurses, all with their own furry friends to support them.
We have all been on a journey with many stories to tell on how and why we entered the the veterinary industry. The key reason across our whole team boils down to the simple fact that we love caring for animals and the people that love them.
My Story
I fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian in 2005. It all started growing up on a wool producing sheep farm. Very early on, I understood the need to respect the land and its animals. I’d found a deep connection to them that I couldn’t ignore. I was involved in a lot of the farm’s activities which instilled a deep belief that you can do anything you put your mind to if you are willing to put in the hard work and persistence. One of these tasks was planting trees to provide shelter for the stock and reduce erosion and over 10 years we planted approximately 10,000 trees.
After developing chronic pain in multiple joints, I needed to change the way I worked in order to continue doing my dream job. Thankfully, with a supportive team at my side, I have been able to continue.. It has though motivated me to look within the veterinary world to determine where it could be improved to ensure everyone feels they can make a fulfilling contribution and can stay in the industry regardless of what life throws at them. My focus is on a happy team, making happy pets and families in all aspects of their lives
Community & Contributions
How we can all do little things regularly to make a big difference.
As a passionate animal lover and advocate, it is very important for me to do what I can for them. Every little bit helps and when we collectively flex our muscles to help out the earth and it's animals, we can make a huge difference.
Not everyone can do everything, but small changes in our life can reduce climate change and waste that has a flow on affect to how animals live their daily lives. This, I'm sure we can all agree, is so important. Go to thornburyvet.com.au/about-us for more information.
Simple little things that I like to do are:
Donate $1 from each consult to a different charity each month eg The Homeless Project, The Firebrigade, Dress For Success, The ASRC (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
Pet education program (PetPep) for local schools, where we teach kids how to safely approach animals and responsible pet ownership.
Treatment of injured wildlife
Composting
Plant a tree or grow a veggie patch
Use the government initiatives- we put solar panels on the vet clinic
Get involved with passionate groups that offer great current advice eg Vets for Climate Action or the World Wildlife Fund
Reduce your plastics in the household
Ride to work
Eat less meat- I love being plant based, the food can still be yummy!
